WE ALL HAVE PURPOSE


"The purposes of a person's heart are deep waters, but one who has insight draws them out." 

Proverbs 20:5

Have you wondered what the meaning of life is? 

"Why are we here? And what your purpose is? 

I have!

Although we sometimes question it, we all want to believe we have a purpose. 

It's a scary and powerful responsibility. 

.

When I think about purpose, it seems we often make it more complicated than it needs to be. 

Some people know from the time they're young what their talent is and what their gifts are. 

These people tend to grow up with a sense of purpose

 But, what happens if we aren't able to pinpoint a specific gift or talent you have?  

Does that mean we have no purpose

.

Purpose is defined as the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists; 

a person's sense of resolve or determination. 

Even if we may not realize our larger purpose, 

living each day purposefully is everyone's purpose.

 .

Therefore, each day we ought to step out and set off with a sense of purpose in everything we do! 

We ought to face each day with all its circumstances with intention.


However, there are so many distractions that keep us from facing life purposefully. 

 It's easier to ignore the intention with which we should face each day.

 .

God has purposely made each one of us: "for you created my inmost being; 

you knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13) to be reconciled to him for eternity. 

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, 

that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16), 

but that doesn't mean that we should sit around and wait for our eternity! 

.

"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, 

which God prepared in advance for us to do." (Ephesians 2:10).

If you are still searching for a purpose, I want to encourage you. 

There is purpose in how we handle our "search." 

Being intentional with joy and peace in whatever season we are in 

and whatever circumstances each day brings. 

"I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. 

I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, 

whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want 

(Philippians 4:12).

.

I believe our mental and physical health lies in focusing on God 

and on the positive of those situations we can't control 

or wish we could avoid. 

 Our choices during these circumstances we face are like pieces of a puzzle. 

Not one piece is wasted even if it doesn't fit where we first intended to place it. 

It's part of who we are.

Whether good or bad, our behavior and attitude towards life 

is part of our purpose and unintentional influence to those around us, 

like encouragement and humility!

.

Be willing to learn and grow from what each day presents you with 

because we tend to learn from what we want, 

but we can also learn from what we can't control. 

That may be YOUR PURPOSE for a season!


Prayer: 

Dear God, help us to live with purposeful intention 

and draw out from one another the purpose you have called each one of us for 

that we may live the life you designed us for to live. 

In Jesus' name, amen!

On May 22, 2024 , I shared a post on our social media accounts that sparked a lot of feedback , prompting me to reflect on an often overlooked issue in the church: gluttony and its impact on physical and mental health. The first response was a rude comment, but I took no offense as I had asked for feedback.   Shortly after, a friend messaged me about how she had overeaten at a restaurant at the time of our post. This led to a conversation where I shared that overcoming gluttony is like running a marathon .
