On May 22, 2024 , I shared a post on our social media accounts that sparked a lot of feedback , prompting me to reflect on an often overlooked issue in the church: gluttony and its impact on physical and mental health. The first response was a rude comment, but I took no offense as I had asked for feedback. Shortly after, a friend messaged me about how she had overeaten at a restaurant at the time of our post. This led to a conversation where I shared that overcoming gluttony is like running a marathon . Hebrews 12:1-4 encourages us to throw off the weights and sins that hold us back, “and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” We believe that’s key! What makes something a sin? If it becomes an idol, something we run to instead of running to God.
